What Is Ovulation Induction?

Ovulation induction (ovarian stimulation) is the controlled stimulation of the ovaries with hormone medication so that several eggs mature in a single cycle. It is the first active stage of IVF treatment.

It usually begins on day 2–3 of menstruation and lasts on average 8–12 days. The injectable medication can be self-administered easily by the patient; at Clavis our nursing team teaches its use step by step and provides 24/7 support throughout. The follicles are monitored regularly with ultrasound and hormone tests.

The medication dose is tailored to the individual according to age, weight, AMH and antral follicle count — this is critical both for obtaining enough eggs and for protection against overstimulation (OHSS). Once the follicles reach sufficient maturity a trigger injection is given, and OPU is planned 34–36 hours later.
