Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) lets embryos be examined genetically during IVF treatment before they are transferred to the uterus. Chromosomal abnormalities and hereditary diseases are screened for ahead of transfer, and the healthiest embryo is selected to support your chances of pregnancy. Also known as embryo genetic screening, PGT is a genetic analysis performed during IVF treatment by taking a few cells from embryos that reach the blastocyst stage (days 5–6). The cells are taken from the embryo's outer layer, which forms the placenta rather than the baby; the embryo found to be chromosomally and genetically healthy is then transferred to the uterus.
This makes it possible to avoid transferring embryos with a low chance of implantation or that carry a hereditary disease; the risk of miscarriage is reduced and the chance of pregnancy per attempt is supported. PGT is one of the most valuable additions to treatment, especially in advanced maternal age, recurrent miscarriage and inherited genetic disease.

Yes. In sex-linked inherited conditions such as haemophilia or Duchenne muscular dystrophy, the chromosomal structure of the embryos is examined so that the transfer of at-risk embryos is avoided. In this way, the risk of passing the condition on to the next generation is addressed before transfer.
Biopsied embryos are frozen safely using vitrification, which has a 99% success rate; once the genetic analysis is complete, the transfer of a healthy embryo is planned for a separate cycle. As a result, your stay in Cyprus usually does not exceed 5-7 days each time.
