What Is Beta hCG (Pregnancy Test)?

Beta hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) is the pregnancy hormone that begins to be secreted once the embryo implants in the uterus. In IVF treatment, the day known as 'test day' is the day the Beta hCG level is measured in the blood.

It is measured from the blood approximately 10–12 days after embryo transfer. A value above a certain threshold indicates pregnancy; in a second measurement taken 48 hours later, the value roughly doubling is a positive sign that the pregnancy is progressing healthily.
