What Is Progesterone?

Progesterone is the key hormone that prepares the uterine lining for embryo implantation and sustains the pregnancy. It is also known as the 'pregnancy hormone'.

In IVF treatment, progesterone support is standard in the period after embryo transfer (the luteal phase); it can be given as an injection, a vaginal gel/pessary or a tablet. This support keeps the uterine lining ready to receive the embryo.

If the pregnancy test is positive, progesterone support continues for the duration determined by the physician (usually the first weeks of pregnancy). Which form and dose are used is planned individually; the Clavis nursing team is by your side throughout its use.
